Our center is a state of the art medical facility at which testing for sleep disorders takes place. The center itself is comprised of private sound insulated bedrooms. Each bedroom is equipped with digital diagnostic equipment that records breathing, heart functions, oxygen levels and brain waves. A trained sleep study technician performs the study under the supervision of our board certified sleep medicine specialist. The sleep technician will be on hand all night to answer any questions or address any problems.
Good sleep helps us think, plan, organize, remember, speak and comprehend. Good sleep restores us and helps us pay attention. When we do not sleep well, we put ourselves at risk for drowsiness and accidents. Poor sleep may trigger or worsen depression and other psychiatric problems and may weaken our immune system, increasing our susceptibility to infections and other illnesses.
What is a Sleep Disorder?
There are 70 million Americans who suffer from some sort of sleep disorder. About 60% of them have a chronic disorder. More than 50% of Americans age 65 and older have a sleep problem. The occurrence of sleep disorders increases with age. In addition, about 25% of American children age 1-5 have a sleep disturbance.
One of the most common sleep disorders is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Sleep Apnea is defined as periods of stopped breathing lasting 10 seconds or longer, that occur during sleep.
We spend over one third of our lives sleeping. Sleep affects every aspect of our physical and psychological health. Be an advocate for your sleep health!
